TWHBEA Numbers Reveal Uptrend In Breeding

Lewisburg, TN - The Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ And Exhibitors’ Association (TWHBEA) recently compared registry statistics from the period September 21, 2011 through September 20, 2012 to those from the same period during the previous year. While, due primarily to the state of the economy and industry issues, total registrations and transfers are down, there is reason for optimism. Both the number of stallion reports submitted and the number of different mares listed on those reports are up. The number of stallion reports increased by 19% and the number of mares bred was up by 21%. These two uptrends, coupled with only a minor decrease in new foal registrations, indicate that the business of breeding Tennessee Walking Horses remains promising. "We are encouraged by the increase in stallion reports turned in and the increase in number of mares bred shown on those stallion reports,” states TWHBEA President Marty Irby.  As the breeders form the foundation of our industry, these statistics bode extremely well for each and every segment of the Tennessee Walking Horse world.
