WHOA/TWHBEA Riding Clinic in Edison, GA

Edison, GA – The beautiful show grounds of the Edison Lions’ Club was the setting for the second WHOA/TWHBEA Riding Clinic held on March 13, 2010.  Certified Riding Instructor Barbara Civils provided the instruction at the all-day event.  Civils began with an introduction about herself and then asked the participants to tell something about themselves, what particular area of horsemanship they were interested in, and what their individuals goals were for the day.
Lynn Young, Mandie and Chad McFay brought their own horses and Civils provided two horses.  All of the horses were shared by those in attendance.  The horses ranged from trail pleasure, lite shod and park performance to the western pleasure horse used for instruction in stock seat equitation.  Instruction began with the correct methods of showmanship and presentation of the model horse with participants trying out their skills.

Civils provided instruction on show ring etiquette and general horsemanship based on the experience level of the participant.  She and her assistant for the day, Harolene Willis, helped the riders to gain confidence and to be comfortable with their horses.  They learned how important the rider is to the success and presentation of the horse.

A box lunch of delicious southern fried chicken and sides was provided by West IGA courtesy of Paige Edwards.  Edison Mayor Reeves Lane joined the group for lunch which was held in the Lions Club Clubhouse on the horse show grounds.

At the end of the day, everyone related what they had learned and all felt that they had accomplished their goals, which included individual improvements with their own horses and with their skills as riders.

Other riding clinics are expected to be held throughout the country.  For more information, please visit the WHOA or TWHBEA websites or contact Mark Taylor at 615-494-8824.
