Fran Cole
I practiced as a corporate and securities attorney in private firms and in-house for twenty years. In 2001 I retired from the financial services industry, leaving San Francisco and Charles Schwab & Co. as Senior Vice President and Chief Counsel, Investment Management. I subsequently moved with my family to Grass Valley, CA, where I immersed myself in the non-profit world, helping organizations with governance development.
I currently serve as President and on the board of the Northern California Walking Horse Association and was a co-founder of the Merrylegs Gaited Horse group. I promote the Tennessee Walking Horse in my state by helping to organize shows, clinics, exhibitions and other gaited horse events. My daughters and I promote our horses by showing at local, regional and national shows, but we are not just “show people. “ We also trail ride, breed a few mares and otherwise enjoy our horses. Formerly a member of the Gold Country Glide Riders gaited horse drill team, I am currently one of two TWH participants in an all-breed drill team, the Penn Valley Patriots
Several years ago I helped establish the Sammie’s Friends Horse Fund, a nonprofit project that provides veterinary services for horses in need in our region. I have volunteered at our county’s animal shelter for over ten years.
Outside of the world of horses, I am the President and on the board of the Nevada County Land Trust.
