Tennessee Walking Horse Museum
Of particular interest to the walking horse enthusiast, the Tennessee Walking Horse museum is located on the square in Lynchburg, Tennessee. The museum features exhibits on nearly every aspect of the history of the Tennessee Walking Horse. There are exhibits on the formation of the breed registry, foundation bloodlines, World Grand Champions, Celebration history, Versatility, and the care and training of the Tennessee Walking Horse. Additionally there are regularly updated exhibits covering the current World Grand Champion, a selected breeder, and a selected trainer. Specific artifacts of interest include the saddle used by Floyd Carothers on the very first world grand champion, Strolling Jim, the bridle with the rope mouthpiece worn by 1980 World Grand Champion Ebony’s Mountain Man, and the first patent leather saddle ever used in competition at the Celebration.
The museum also has a “hands on” area where visitors can browse old copies of the Blue Ribbon, old sale programs, registry books, and other literature related to the breed. Finally, the museum offers a number of informative videos that visitors can watch at their leisure.

The Tennessee Walking Horse Museum is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is free. For more information, call the museum at 931-759-5747.
